Bare Bones Board (Rev C) an Arduino Clone

FKit - breadboard setup, powered by and programmed by the
FTDI USB TTL-232RL cable. Can be a Rev D or a Rev C (with
simple auto-reset mod) Power is fed to the breadboard rails
by two pins just out of sight behind the LED on the right.

Rock Bottom Freeduino Kit - chip, crystal (and caps),
reset switch and pullup resistor. Can be used on
breadboard or a prototyping board. Can come bundled
with P3 (not shown) or P4, Breadboard Power supply,
and/or breadboard

to read temperature from a DS18B20 One-Wire(tm) [in
blue heatshrink] sensor and display. The project is
totally powered by the on board voltage regulator of
the RBBB. It is ready for completion, and can be
removed from the breadboard and soldered to a base
board. The project was programmed by a P3 adapter
inserted along the appropriate pins on the breadboard.

Wulfden Freeduino Kit breadboard mounted with
P3 serial adapter

Wulfden Freeduino Kits - The FKit, the core of most of our Arduino compatible offerings is based upon the Bare Bones Board from Modern Device Company. We also offer a further stripped down line called the Rock Bottom Freeduino. All Wulfden Freeduino devices are fully Arduino compatible. All programs that run on standard Arduino hardware will run on our Freeduino boards
Wulfden has chose the Modern Device design as the basis for it Arduino offerings because we feel it is a superior platform. By separating the programming circuitry from the processor board, our Freeduino (Arduino compatible) products give more bang for your processing buck. A Wulfden Freeduino Kit and an FTDI cable sells for just about exactly the price for which a mainstream Arduino (R) board sells. BUT, a second Arduino board will cost exactly the same, while a second FKit sells for less than half the price of another Arduino board, and then you will reuse the FTDI cable. This carries on for all subsequent FKits. Further, the FTDI cable can be very useful for a number of other projects
Experimenters will find that the layout of the BBB/RBBA boards provides them with more flexibility and allows simple and easy interfacing to breadboards and commonly available prototyping boards as opposed to being tied to expensive, non-standard shield boards.
Wulfden Freeduino Kit Bootloader - beginning 10/1/2007 all our kits will ship with the ADABOOTloader burned into the ATmega168 chip. Limor Fried (a.k.a "Lady Ada") of AdaFruit Industries has taken the basic Arduino(R) NG bootloader, cleaned up some of the uglies, added a number of the best features of the newer Diecimilia (R) bootloader, all the while retaining the ability to be used with homebrewed programming interfaces. Wulfden has combined these features into a single coherent universal bootloader that can be used across all of our kits with or without auto-reset enabled and is compatible with all Arduino(R) software. For more information and links o source, make, and hex files go to our ADABOOT webpage.
Wulfden Freeduino Kit - Rev. C or Rev. D ??? - shortly after the Rev C BBB board came out the Arduino team released Arduino 0009 which supported Auto-Reset in the newly released Arduino Diecimilia (tm) board. In earlier versions the programmer had to manually push the reset button and then start the sketch download. In 0009 now a signal was sent down to the new boards or modifed older boards that reset the processor and immediately began the sketch download. The Rev C board, if used with the recommended FTDI USB TTL to serial cable can be easily modified (either at build time or after the fact) to handle auto-reset. The modification for a RS232 serial programmer is not so clean.
The Rev D BBB board differs from the Rev C board in two ways only. (1) a position for a cap and traces to facilitate auto-reset via the FTDI cable were added. (2) The RESET line was brought forward and added to the front row of pins to facilitate use of a serial adapter
Use of the Rev C board with a serial adapter costs an extra 10-20 seconds each time you download a sketch and you must manually hit reset. In a development environment this is annoying and time consuming, especially during heavy debug cycles. However, in a runtime environment, download once and let it run. it is inconsequential. Modern Devices no longer has any Rev C boards. Wulfden something just under 200 Rev C boards left in stock here that are now being made available at a reduced price (approx $2 off) as bare boards and complete FKits
Rock Bottom Freeduino Kit - assuming you have power, breadboards, computers etc, but just want to give Arduino a try this will get you started for pennies! The Rock Bottom Freeduino Kit Plus is the RBFK plus a Really Bare Bones Board and its necessary components.

CUSTOMER EMAIL ADDRESSES - when you place an order with us here at Wulfden you need to supply us with a real email address for an account that is checked daily. Increasingly we get orders from dummy email addresses that are used just for PayPal and rarely/never checked. Thus, when something is not clear in an order and I attempt to remedy the situation I get no answers. I take no responsbility for your order beyond the face value of the PayPal order under these circumstances. A number of you have cute little traps set requiring secondary response to get mail through to your address. I do not play that game! Make <brianbr@wulfden.org> able to pass your trap. |
PayPal orders are generally sent within a day. You may order by mail with a Postal Money Order or a personal check; they must
be made out in "US Funds."
Orders paid by check will be held five days after receipt. Make checks or money orders out

| Rock Bottom Freeduino Kit (see pic to right) |
This kit has the plain basics for a beginner wanting to experiment without a big investment, or an old timer wanting to build a basic runtime Arduino board. Consists of an ATmega168 with the latest Arduino bootloader, 28 pin socket, 16 MHz crystal with 2x20pf caps, pushbutton reset switch with 10K pullup resistor. |

|
| The default resonant element supplied with the RBFK is a 16 MHz crystal with 2 20 pF caps. This is because it lends itself to being easily setup on a breadboard. I will, upon request, substitute a 16 MHz 3 pin ceramic resonator for the crystal and caps. Just put your request into the notes to the seller area on your PayPal order, or in writing on mail orders

| FTDI USB Programming Cable |
This is the FTDI TTL-232R(5) cable with the USB-serial circuitry in the USB "A" end and a 6 pin .100" socket header at the other end. It implements TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS and supplies up to about 300 ma of 5 volt current. The FTDI Driver correctly responds to the AutoReset signal in Arduino-0009 by flagging RTS instead of DTR (in Mac/Linux its enabled, in Windows you need to enable). You may download the manual here. |
